Buckenham Woods – an opportunity for Strumpshaw and neighbouring parishes

BUCKENHAM WOOD – AN OPPORTUNITY FOR STRUMPSHAW AND NEIGHBOURING PARISHES

Buckenham Wood in Strumpshaw is in danger: many local residents and visitors who walk their dogs and families around this middle part of the entire woodland are unaware that it is privately owned and not public land belonging to the Parish Council. The landowner has approached Strumpshaw Parish Council to see if it is interested in purchasing the middle 7.4 acre plot in the woods. If this opportunity is not taken up, it will be sold on the open market, and access to use it and enjoy the bluebells will likely be lost forever.

It is intended to set up Buckenham Wood Trust as a community initiative to raise the money necessary to purchase and manage the land in perpetuity. This will enable the local community to use and enjoy it legitimately in ways that do not impact the ancient woodland and its bluebells.

To make this happen Strumpshaw and its neighbouring communities need to come together to realise this opportunity.
