Are you interested in taking up a civic office that can make a real difference to the community Brundall Parish Council represents?

Government is, more than ever, looking to local communities and local councils to respond to very local needs and priorities. You would become part of the democratic framework of the country, representing the interests of your community within a broad landscape of national governance.

The role of a Parish Councillor will be challenging, exciting, and, at times, frustrating, but training and support are readily available to enable you to gain the personal satisfaction of knowing you and your council have made a difference.

In order to be eligible for the role you will need to be over 18 and a qualifying citizen.  This information is available below and on the Electoral Commission website here.

The Council is looking for someone with a passion for Brundall.  Experience of project design and management or applying for grants and raising funds for larger projects would be very welcome but not necessary.

 

Qualifying criteria to be a Parish Councillor are:

• be at least 18 years old
• be a British citizen, an eligible Commonwealth citizen, a citizen of the Republic of Ireland, a qualifying EU citizen or an EU citizen with retained rights
• meet at least one of the following four qualifications:
  • You are, and will continue to be, registered as a local government elector for the parish in which you wish to stand from the day of your nomination onwards. More information is set out in the Electoral Commission guidance ‘Being a registered local government elector’.
  • You have occupied as owner or tenant any land or other premises in the parish area during the whole of the 12 months before the day of your nomination and the day of election.   • Your main or only place of work during the 12 months prior to the day of your nomination and the day of election has been in the parish area. More information is set out in the Electoral Commission guidance ‘Your main or only place of work is in the local authority area‘.
  • You have lived in the parish area or within three miles of it during the whole of the 12 months before the day of your nomination and the day of election. More information is set out in the Electoral Commission guidance ‘Living in the parish area (or within three miles of it)’.

When completing your home address form and consent to nomination form you will be asked to indicate which qualifications you meet. You should indicate on the forms all those qualifications that apply to you.
